We Can't Cry Away The Pain Empty
PostSubject: We Can't Cry Away The Pain   We Can't Cry Away The Pain EmptyFri Jun 08, 2012 8:02 pm

This couldn't be happening, he couldn't be left alone in this world. But alas, it was nothing but the truth. Shinikizo was dead, Shani was dead. His mother was dead. Even after the consoling words of his queens, he tore away from his mother's dead body heartbroken and in tears. Upendo's whole life was crashing down around him and he would never be able to look at himself or any of his siblings the same way again. Sakina had their father's eyes, Jabari their mother's. Ziko was the offspring of genetics on their father's side while Malaika was a large clone of their mother. And then there lie Upendo, the one who had every part of his mother and father inside of him. He had his father's nose but his mother's color. There were to conflicting crimson and violet eyes that he held, and then there was his father's coat and his mother's tail tuft color. All in all, Upendo could never look at himself anymore, not without thinking of his mother. How could this have happened? Had his mother known what was going to happen? No, there was no doubt that this wasn't planned, that it was all just pure luck that his mother had stumbled onto the unsuspecting male. But who would be so cruel to kill a female, one who clearly smelled of the Lowland pride? Who would be so cruel to kill his mother, did this lion do something to his mother in her past and now wanted to finish whatever he started? No, it couldn't be.

Upendo knew that the only male that his mother had ever been with was his father, and now they would be spending eternity together in the afterlife until Upendo came to join them many years later. But the cub doubted everything that would lead him to think that his father had been spared by the Great Spirits, but what if he had really? He had died defending his king from a rogue -or so the story went- but maybe that was enough to set him free from a bad spirit's clutches? Upendo wasn't really sure about the Great Spirits, he would have to ask Queen Nyota about them later. But for now, Upendo was running away from his mother's motionless body and his two monarchs. Tearing through the vines that lay among the jungle floor was tough when one had tears clouding up their eyes and something that even the experienced lion wouldn't really dare to attempt. So many things could have happened as the cub tore through the vines, an ankle could easily have been snapped, but Upendo didn't care even as he tumbled once or twice into the trees and brush of his jungle homeland. He couldn't bare the image of his dead mother even though it would stick in his head until his final days. There was just something he needed right now, but the young cub had no idea what that was. To Upendo's right he could see the Maji River that lay below the upcoming destination that he was running to, something that he never knew existed.

Upon entering in the Mwezi Meadow, Upendo's legs felt like jello as he tried to find a place to rest. Running through the kingdom whilst sobbing would tire out anyone, and now the cub felt horrible for not staying and comforting his sisters. But he would have time to comfort them later, to become the father that they never had even though they were all litter-mates. He didn't really know how their father's death affected his sisters, but he knew that the death of their mother would bring trouble to the Lowlands and the little family of now only three that still resided in the jungles. Finally Upendo found a place to rest and he fell with a thud at the edge of the pool of water that was next to the thundering waterfall above. However the thundering that was usually heard was muffled, as if it was trying to offer some silence and calmness to the crying cub. Maybe the Great Spirits had something to do about it? Upendo looked into the pool of water and swiped at the moss that lay below gently with his paw before seeing his own face. The cub's eyes erupted more tears and slashed at the water below, sending ripples onto the surface from where he struck. Upendo buried his head into his paws and lay on the edge of the water shuddering yet again. The cub had just lost his entire world and it was finally setting in that he would never hear his mother's voice again. His mother was dead, gone from this world, and there was nothing that he could do about it.

We Can't Cry Away The Pain Empty
PostSubject: Re: We Can't Cry Away The Pain   We Can't Cry Away The Pain EmptySun Jun 10, 2012 1:09 am

The day had been spent alone, away from the jungle pride, for Giza was on a mission. While Princess Nyima felt a surge of guilt when faced with the destruction of a lizard, Giza thought nothing of smashing any critter that crossed her path. She was a skilled hunter of small prey and was newly a self-taught fisher. The cubbish look was disappearing from Giza's features, and her legs were growing awkwardly, giving her a gangly appearance as she neared adolescence. Though she was still not a fan of water, she had discovered a log over the river, quite near the border. From the log, she could scoop the fish out as they swam downstream, unsuspecting. As of late, the mood in the jungle had been somber. With the loss of her mate, Upendo's mother had been mourning, which was difficult for her children. Giza had decided a few fish might cheer up the family, and so she had set out to catch as many fish as she could carry back to them.

It seemed the pride's influence on the lost daughter of Scar had helped her to be a little more helpful, more appreciative. Upendo was the type to give gifts, and so Giza tried to follow his example. She was still not present every day, but she attempted to show her gratitude with a better attitude and behavior. The sound of agonized roars had caught her attention after her first catch. Giza was still a fair distance away from the bloody scene, but was en route when Nyota discovered Shani and bellowed a roar of her own. She was there in time to see Upendo stumbling upon the horrible sight, and her sky blue eyes took it all in, stunned to silence. The tan cub had fled the scene and Giza was still unable to move. When she was finally able to move again, she tore off into the jungle after Upendo, with her catch still in her mouth.

By the time she had caught up to Upendo, the fish had been torn to shreds by her sharp teeth. No matter how hard she had tried to be gentle, it was not her nature to be soft and sweet. But now, Giza was at a loss. What could be said? The news of his father's death had affected Upendo, but this was entirely different. Giza herself felt a sense of loss, for Shani had always been kind and welcoming to the lost cub her son had discovered, half dead. After a moment, she walked hesitantly to Upendo's side, where she dropped the pathetic looking fish near his forepaws. "H-here.." She said awkwardly. Her heart ached for Upendo, in a way she had not imagined possible. Normally, she was unemotional, distant - but seeing her friend reduced to tears was nearly unbearable. In a way, she could understand. She had lost her family too, but she had no reason to believe her family members were also dead.

Upendo had been there for her in her hour of need, and Giza was determined to finally repay the favor. Still, she was at a loss for what to do, and she kept enough distance, in case the normally calm cub freaked out and turned on her. There was no telling what he could do in his emotional state. "I- I'm sorry, Upendo," she offered weakly before biting her lower lip hard to keep her own tears from falling.

We Can't Cry Away The Pain Empty
PostSubject: Re: We Can't Cry Away The Pain   We Can't Cry Away The Pain EmptyWed Jun 13, 2012 9:54 pm

Upendo may be older than a senseless cub, but that's exactly how he felt in this moment. True many other cubs might have been done crying soon afterwords, but Upendo was different. His mother was everything that he had left, she was the only one of his parents who loved him for him. And yet, Shani was now gone, lost to the past and nowhere to see him grow up. Shani would never see her children grow up into adults, she would never see any grandchildren that were produced, she would never be able to grow old. But had her death really been that much of a hardship? Without his father around, Upendo knew that his mother would have been miserable, so might this had been the most painless way for her to go? No, there was sure to be revenge payed sooner or later. Upendo never really held grudges, but he would find the son of the demon who killed his mother and he would destroy him. But would Upendo really have the guts to do so? Maybe that's what Nyota had gone off to do, find his mother's murderer? At least that's what the young cub hoped had happened. There was a rustling in the grass behind him and Upendo kept to himself, it was probably just another animal running around. The dual-eyed male had no idea that this was in fact the lone cub he found wandering around the lands so many months ago. Tears ran down his face even more, not recognizing the scent of the russet female, but looked up to see a fish placed in front of him.

He couldn't eat, anything that he was going to eat would be thrown up soon afterwords. The thought of any kind of blood sickened the male as it reminded him of his mother's blood that still stained his paws. The cub turned his head to see none other than Giza sitting next to him, holding back her own tears and apologizing to Upendo for the loss of his mother. The age difference between the two was clearer now, Giza was already an adolescent and Upendo still a cub only a few months behind. It was true that his mane had grown wilder, but it wasn't long enough to really have him considered a young teen. The fur on his chest was still as pale as it used to be, but it showed some signs of mane growth. Upendo's eyes softened as he looked to his friend and he tried to muster up a smile. With a whispering sense of happiness, Upendo breathed out her name, "Giza," The tanned cub stood up and padded over to the female, his legs shaky from the long run towards the falls. He pushed his head underneath the female's chin and attempted to cry into her shoulder, but it only lasted for a few moments before Upendo's tears ran dry. But the cub still stayed in this position, his paw awkwardly around Giza's leg in a subtle attempt to receive a hug. He sniffed a few times before backing away, his teary eyes staring into his friend's bright cerulean.

"T-Thanks Giza," The male looked over to the forgotten fish and mustered up a smile. This was the nicest thing Giza had ever done in her time being in the Lowlands, and the cub took it to heart. But the cub looked back to his paws, how they were coated in his mother's drying blood. He started to shake as emotion welled up inside of him, but he couldn't cry. It was so strange, everything he ever was effected by made him cry, for it was in his nature for a broken heart. Especially around death of one's family. But now, the tears stopped flowing, and Upendo remained motionless to the spot, "I'll kill him, the one who murdered mother, I'll destroy him," These were strong words for a little child as he was, but Upendo honestly felt that way. He was going to avenge his mother's death one way or another, but would it be through killing again? Or would the natural peacemaker that Upendo is shine through? Only time would tell.

We Can't Cry Away The Pain Empty
PostSubject: Re: We Can't Cry Away The Pain   We Can't Cry Away The Pain EmptyThu Jun 14, 2012 3:16 am

Normally, Giza would glare at anyone who came close to her, but when Upendo approached, she didn't shrink away. At first, she sat feeling just as awkward as he half hugged her, and quickly realized she didn't mind it. She just wasn't used to intimacy, but it wasn't so bad after all. She even patted his shoulder with a forepaw as he hugged her weakly. Upendo wasn't the type who got angry, and he certainly wasn't vengeful by nature. Giza looked at him, hiding the surprise from her dark features as he vowed to hunt down the killer. This was a side of Upendo she had never seen, and it made Giza want to try harder to fix him. Upendo was nice and gentle, everything Giza wasn't, and she wanted to preserve those traits that she lacked, but he displayed in abundance. "The Lowlanders will get him, Upendo. Don't worry. I bet they're out looking for him right now. And if they don't find him, then we will, when we're both big enough." Giza was proud of her own age, that she was a few months older than the other cubs in the jungle. Her diet had improved since leaving her homeland, and she was growing bigger and stronger. Still, Upendo looked very much like a cub in his current state, and Giza tried her best to comfort him, offering an awkward nuzzle. "It'll be okay."

Giza's mind wandered to her own mother, left behind months ago. Was Heshima still alive in the Pridelands, or had she fallen victim to Scar's wrath? Giza had no clue that her mother had been banished from her father's kingdom, along with her surviving sister Tasa. Hearing of Ari's death would crush Giza, but for now, she remained ignorant of her family's fate. Giza wondered how she would feel if the tables were turned, and she learned of her own mother's demise. The thought made her heart ache with loneliness for the family she had left behind, even if she had felt neglected. She could still remember lazing around the den with her mother and Ari all day long, avoiding the sun and the judgmental glances of the lionesses who disliked the spawn of the dark king. "I want to tell you something, Upendo. Something no one else knows, and they never can know. But I trust you," she admitted softly. Maybe knowing the truth about Giza's family would comfort Upendo in some way.

Her gaze fell to Upendo's paws, and she cringed visibly at the sight of the blood. It was awful, but Giza tried to lighten the mood. She didn’t know what else to do. All she knew was that her friend was sad, and that he needed her now. "But first, let's go swimming," she suggested, remembering how much he had always loved the water. The first day they had met, Giza had nearly drowned, but she had been practicing since then. She forced a weak smile as she took a few tentative steps towards the water. All she could do was distract Upendo, and get him cleaned up. The destroyed fish was forgotten. "I've gotten pretty good at swimming. Probably not as good as you, though."

We Can't Cry Away The Pain Empty
PostSubject: Re: We Can't Cry Away The Pain   We Can't Cry Away The Pain EmptyWed Jun 27, 2012 1:20 am

Giza's words attempted to calm the dark tan cub who looked so much like his sire, and yet it only seemed to anger him more. "They better, because if they don't I don't know what I'd do," The cub growled and looked to the ground, "He killed my mother, he's going to pay," When Giza said that when they were older they would go searching for the lion Upendo shook his head. "No Giza, I'll go when I'm older, I can't let you get hurt. It's not that I don't trust you, it's I don't trust him," If Giza got hurt because of Upendo's demons then he wouldn't be able to contain himself. He felt responsible for the russet female's well being seeing as he was the one that found her struggling to stay alive in the savannah as she wandered into the Lowlands. The dual-eyed cub honestly didn't know what to think anymore. All he knew was that he was full of emotion and honestly he didn't know what exactly to feel but emotion. Anger, sorrow, compassion, everything ran through the cub's mind. But what he did know was that the place his father's loathing held in his heart had now been replaced by someone who was alive and well. His mother's killer. But for now it seemed that the loathing was being shoved into the deep recesses of his heart for compassion and kindness was now being pushed out by Giza. Her words of comfort were finally meaning something to the cub and he uttered a simple thanks.

Curious as to what Giza had to tell him, Upendo nodded and tilted his head to the right, "Yeah Giza? What is it? You can tell me anything you know that," And at the order that no one else must know, Upendo smiled and nodded yet again, "Don't worry, anything that you tell me is safe with me. No big bad lion is going to get this information out of me!" Trying to make some light out of the situation, Upendo joked around and pretended to swat at some larger opposing foe that was threatening the jungle kingdom. But just as Giza was about to reveal this big secret, she suggested taking a swim first. Upendo frowned slightly, but was happy to see that he at least made an impact on Giza's way of life. The cub nodded softly and started to walk towards the small pool of water. But instead of jumping in like always, Upendo stepped lightly in and waded in the shallows, fearing that if he swam to far his legs would give out and he would have to be saved. So as he waited for Giza to jump in, she commented on how she had gotten better and the dual-eyed cub chuckled. "Oh so you've gotten better have you? Well prove it then!" Maybe once his legs were rested up a bit Upendo would swim into the deeper water with the possibly fish that swam below, but for now he stayed close to the edge of the water and swished his tail around.

But then, Upendo pushed himself towards the waterfall that graced the surrounding area and gasped at what he saw behind it. "Giza come here! Look!" Behind the falling water lay a small cave, hidden from all who dare not come near the falls. Upendo quickly braved the onslaught of water and dissapeared into the cave, laying down and staring around. It was large enough to hold two adult lions at least, but it still was well hidden from the outside world. There was a peaceful silence to the cave which surprised the cub due to the raging water just outside. The dark tan cub would smile at Giza once she entered the cave and motion around with his paw. "I think we just found ourselves a new hangout! But we gotta keep this a secret from my sisters, I think this should just be our special place," For the moment, Upendo only meant it in a friendly way. But truthfully, would he mean it like that in the future? Only time would tell, but for now, his thoughts were as innocent as possible. Just like his kind nature was.

We Can't Cry Away The Pain Empty
PostSubject: Re: We Can't Cry Away The Pain   We Can't Cry Away The Pain EmptyWed Jun 27, 2012 4:50 pm

Giza hated to see Upendo like this. Upendo was the nicest lion she had ever met. He was too good to be angry and vengeful, the way Giza felt deep down. She only frowned as he continued on, stating that he wouldn't allow his friend to help hunt down his mother's killer. All she could do was hope that Nyota and the other Lowlanders caught the horrible lion first, so that Upendo's paws would not be stained with his blood. The thought of Upendo as a killer upset Giza more than she would admit, and she allowed the subject to pass without any further comment.

Upendo seemed distracted enough when Giza admitted she had a secret, but she couldn't bring herself to vocalize her history just yet. She was still trying to think of a way to share her news when Upendo challenged her, asking her to prove that her swimming skills and improved. Her nose wrinkled. "I will! Just watch!" Even still, Giza entered the water very slowly, and her expression looked just a little pained. But once she was in the water, she seemed to gain confidence. She paddled around easily, keeping her head above the water. "See? I'm an expert now!" Upendo seemed less thrilled about swimming, which was odd, but then he saw something new. Giza paddled over curiously, swimming beneath the falls with her breath held.

It was hard to believe that water, so seemingly innocent and vital to life, was capable of forming such an impressive cave. It had taken thousands of years, far longer than Giza could even comprehend, for the rock to wear away behind the waterfall to create the hidden cave. Giza felt awestruck as she entered, not even bothering to shake the liquid from her fur before she could get a better look at it. It was rather dark in the cave, but not pitch black, since some sunlight was able to pass through the cascade. For a long minute, the lioness inspected every inch of their newfound hiding place, unable to contain her own wonder. "This is crazy. You sure you've never seen it before?" But from the equally pleased look on her friend's face, Giza knew that this truly was a new discovery.

Finally, her entire body shook in an attempt to rid herself of the water, which was hardly successful. But the coolness of the cave and her damp fur made Giza feel at ease, very comfortable. It was much better than the humidity of the jungle. She sat down close beside Upendo and she remembered the secret she was about to share. "Oh yeah, I wanted to tell you..." But she paused, apparently still struggling with her deep, dark secret. After a sigh, she continued. "I think I've mentioned that I was born in the Pridelands, right? Well, that's all true. The thing I never told you is that my father, he's..." All the shame of the world fell upon Giza, and she sighed again. "My father is Scar. King of the Pridelands." The lost princess looked down, afraid of how her friend would react. The Lowlanders hated Scar, and Giza knew it.
