Appearance: The spitting image of the father he will never meet, Akili's fur is a pale sandy color, making blending in with the dunes a natural talent for the cub. His underbelly, paws, and muzzle are all a softer shade of light tan. His pelt is much healthier than Korofi's however, and he takes pride in his grooming. Even if it means spending an hor carefully picking the granules from his fur after a sandstorm. His growing mane is thick, a darker shade of tan that almost appears gray in certain lights. The same color tufts sprout from his cheeks and the tips of his ears, giving him an unusual, memorable look. The only physical feature inherited from his mother are Vumbi's beautiful, brilliant deep blue eyes, the shade of lapis lazuli.

Personality: To survive in the desert, a cub must be tough, as well as bright. Even from a young age, Akili seems to be smarter than the average cub. He is one of the first to know when a sandstorm is coming, and his loud voice can often be heard warning others of nature's onslaught looming in the distnace so that they have time to escape to the safety of the den. He cares about his fellow Desertlanders, who in turn look out for the adventurous young cub. He and his sister are prone to wandering, and the two often disappear for hours at a time to explore the local dunes, while scouting for a new, undiscovered oasis said to exist in the kingdom. Inquisitive, Akili is destined to get himself into plenty of trouble in his youth, but he's clever enough to figure a way out of nearly any situation.

Akili thinks little of his mother's distant attitude towards her cubs, though he wonders why it is she is never affection and seldom speaks to the cubs at all, if she can help it. He tries to fill in the blanks, like why his father has been completely absent from their lives, by taking random guesses about the past, since Vumbi is not likely to share the truth. In spite of this challenge, the only thing Akili and his father have in common are their appearances and their innate desire to travel and see new places. Akili is playful but never cruel, and more thoughtful and observant than others give him credit for.

History: Akili is the result of an unwelcome union forced upon his unfortunate mother, a Desertlander. His father is a vile rogue, newly an adult and most interested in sowing his wild oats with any young female he encountered. Korofi was in the desert, on a mission from King Scar of the Pridelands to spy on the pride there, and Vumbi was the first lioness he met. She did not instantly trust him, but her pity for his miserable looking state caused her to stay longer than her instinct told her she should, and the male took advantage of the situation.

Akili and his litter mate, a female named Adhra, will never know their father. Korofi doesn't care at all about the outcome of his misdeeds, which is probably lucky for Akili and his sister, given their father's vicious treatment of any and all lives that got in his life. As a result of the unwanted litter, Vumbi is not terribly interested in being their mother, and is often detached and distant. Akili assumes this is because she was in love with his father, and that the lion must be have been tragically killed before his birth, which is why Vumbi never speaks about him.
