Kiume swore he would never enter this area again, it was the place that he founded himself when he was a mere adolescent. It was the sight where his three remarkable children were born, but it was also the sight of tragedy. This was where he lost his Lani, his mate and his queen. It was a hard decision to venture out here, but the king had to make sure that none of his enemies were using the vacated den for their own. The scents that lingered were of his own, not of any other pride and he knew that many of the lionesses must have come here for many reasons.

And now the golden king sat at the mouth of the den, looking out unto the forsaken lands that he had chosen to lead. The winds had entered the cave and smoothed the sand and stone that make the floor, destroying any remaining evidence of Ilani's being. The floor was untouched by any other lion and a sense of dread washed over the area. Haven used to be a place of hope, but now it was a place of despair for all of the Outlanders who knew of the lost queen. Kiume inched his way out of the den and to the pool of almost clean water and started to drink even though he had felt sick to his stomach.

But now the mighty Kiume had been reduced to tears because of where he was and what had happened. He laid down on his stomach and buried his face into his paws. The king hoped that none would come upon the crying mess of their king, but he knew that it was nigh impossible for that not to happen. But for now, Kiume would let his worries be carried away and let all the tears that he had held back forever come out now.

The peach cub was not one to stray far from the termite mounds, as her father had instructed, but that day, Tao felt compelled to wander a little further than usual. Kiume had been absent that day, on patrol, whatever that meant. Little Tao decided to explore in an area that was still a mystery to her, and as if lead by instinct, she found herself near the very place that she had been born. It was also the location that her mother died, losing her own life in exchange for those of her three cubs.

A noise caught her attention nearby. It sounded as if someone was crying, and Tao's expression immediately fell. She was a gentle soul, empathetic to a fault, and without even seeing the source of the sobs, her heart went out to the individual. Following the sound, she found herself in a place she was not familiar. Her father had never taken her to the place where she made her first arrival in the world, but as she drew closer, she had a strange feeling that she couldn't quite place. A soft breeze ruffled the tuft of fur on her forehead, and she smiled in spite of herself, feeling an odd sense of comfort. But when she saw the weeping lion, her heart nearly shattered: it was her own father. She had never seen her father cry before. Now he was crying for all he was worth next to a small pool of water, safely hidden from the prying eyes of his pride. Kiume had always seemed strong, so courageous, and Tao was stunned to see him in this state.

Should she leave him alone? Or would it be better to approach him? She was torn for only a moment before hastily padding over to the golden lion, head lowered and blue eyes filled with concern for her father. "Daddy?" Gently, she touched her little pink nose to Kiume's larger one before curling up in front of him, unsure of what she should say. She could guess why he was mourning, even if he never talked about his hurt, Tao could sense his loss was still deep. The same loss was all too real for Tao as well, who dreamed of her mother often, but never got to see her face, because she didn't have any memories of it to lend to her fantasies. "Sometimes I cry, too. It's okay."

PostSubject: Re: Like Mother Like Daughter   Like Mother Like Daughter EmptySat Mar 31, 2012 9:59 pm

Kiume could hear the pitter patter of little paws walking up to him and he was shocked to see his oldest Tao. His nose was pressed upon by his little girl's and his tears stopped in that instant. He realized that Lani was staring right back at him through Tao's bright blue eyes. Kiume pulled his daughter close and nuzzled her, finally resting his chin on his daughter's head, the exhales from his snout rustling her bangs slightly. "It's alright to cry darling, it's just I miss your mother, and yet I see her so much in you and your brothers," the king smiled, "Especially you Tao,"

Tears now dried, Kiume sighed and motioned his paw to the surrounding area, "This was where you were born Tao, and I actually found this place when I was just a bit older than you," The king didn't want to bore Tao with a history lesson but he felt as if his daughter should know her and her sibling's birth place, and the place where their mother had left the world. It had been months but Kiume was still pained by her death every day. They had finally settled down and started a family, something that Kiume had unknowingly wanted since he was a teen, but then she found her way into Mufasa's arms. The king knew that if Lani was here right now, their children would be super clingy to her, just as Tao was to Kiume.

Kiume wouldn't speak again or wonder why his daughter was so far away from the den. It was dangerous for a princess to be away from the pride and he only assumed Zivia had her hands full with Kavu and Kudumu that Tao had slipped away. Kiume cherished the time he got to spend with his cubs, it validated every ounce of his existence. The king looked around to make sure no one was watching and started to bath his cub. It wasn't that he was afraid of someone catching him, he just felt that bathing the cubs was something that should be done away from prying eyes, that and it wasn't something a king should willingly be doing, but that was an ideal from Denali rather than himself. Once Kiume was done bathing his daughter he would blow softly on her bangs and answer any questions that might come out of her mouth, and he spent the bath wondering what she might conjure up in her little mind.

The cub's instincts had been correct: her father was still grieving for the loss of his mate, away from the curious eyes of his followers back at the termite mounds. It was a tragedy that would likely always move the family to mourning, though the female cub had never seen Kavu or Kudumu crying, she could sense that it made them sad, as well. Tao had grieved for the mother she didn't remember in her own way, usually in the middle of the night while everyone was fast asleep, so no one would see. While some of the other cubs curled up with their mothers to sleep, Tao would sneak to the mouth of their den and feel the keen sense of loss more than ever. She would look up at the stars and cry to herself, always silently and never for more than a few minutes at a time. Weeping accomplished nothing, but sometimes it made Tao feel a little better.

Now, seeing her father, the king in such a state, it was almost impossible for the cub to keep her own emotions from spilling. "Oh," she said softly as she took another look around the place. Before even knowing the history of the haven, Tao could sense that it was an important place, and so she nodded when it was revealed to her that this was the scene of her birth. She fell silent while she received a quick bath, only giggling when it tickled, otherwise Tao simply purred quietly until he was finished. "Daddy?" Part of the cub was hesitant to ask at all, fearing that Kiume would be too sad to answer her questions, but there were too many questions ruminating in her brain. She knew next to nothing about her mother, save for her name and the reason she had passed on from this life. While Tao had attempted to fill in the blanks herself through observations and logic, when it came to her mother, there was nothing but a big question mark.

"What did she look like? Was she nice?" The last question she had in mind seemed an obvious one, but Tao wanted to validate her existence in some way. She was quite certain her father didn't resent her or her brothers for ultimately killing their mother, but she was curious about how she had come to be. Although she wasn't certain about the specifics, she knew that it took a boy lion and a girl lion to make cubs, but there had to be more than just that to it. "Did you really love her?" Romantic love was still a foreign idea to Tao, but she had seen some of the adolescents in the pride sneaking around together, clearly infatuated and rather obsessed with each other. She wanted to believe her father was hopelessly in love with her mother, at the very least, and a small, hopeful smile graced the little cub's delicate features.

Hearing his daughter's purrs and giggles brightened Kiume's spirits and the tears faded away quickly. And when she said daddy he listened in closely, "Yes darling?" He listened to all of Tao's questions, and the first two he expected were questions a child would ask but the last question took Kiume aback. It was odd, a child asking if their parents had loved each other, so Kiume decided to answer that question first. "Of course I loved her Tao, your mother was my best friend, my queen, and the best thing that ever happened to me. Why do you ask?" Kiume would wait to answer the following questions once he had heard what Tao had to say.

After she would answer, Kiume would gently pick her up and carry his daughter to the pool of water a short distance away. He would point with his snout to the water and smile, "That's what she looked like Tao, she looked just like you," he paused, "except that she was lighter than your brother Kudumu, with a silver nose like Kavu's and Kudu's mane as her tail and marking color," He nuzzled his daughter and blew slightly in her bangs, "She had your bangs and your marking, Kavu's ears and Kudumu's eye shades, but all in all, she looked the most like you," Kiume wouldn't know how his daughter would react to looking just like her mother, but he hoped that she would love the fact.

Kiume smiled and looked into the water, staring at both of their reflections, "Your mother was the nicest lioness I have ever met, I see her a lot in you Tao," Kiume stayed silent whilst his daughter pondered the answers he had given and he relished this time. Kiume was always on edge now a days with Scar seeming to grow more unstable every passing second, so it was nice to have alone time with his family. It was during this time that he could waste the days away, not have to care about his kingly responsibilities, and where he could just sit back and relax. No worries, that's all he needed with his children, and that was what he received. And Kiume loved it.

The cub instantly felt guilty for questioning the love between her parents, and she ducked her head, gaze averting to the parched ground near her front paws. But something that her father said caught Tao's interest: the fact that, in spite of her premature death, Lani had been the best thing to happen to her father. Despite the fact that now Kiume was left alone to raise their litter, and still mourned her loss every day, she was still the best thing that ever happened in his life. She loved her father and siblings and the Outlanders, but this was something entirely different. This was a curious idea for the cub. Was love really that important? "Oh. I just wanted to know, that's all. Someone told me that's where cubs from. When a lion and a lioness really love each other. I guess that's true."

Not every cub was wanted, of course, but Tao hadn't seen enough in her short life to realize this just yet. It made her feel a little better to know that at least her mother and father had loved each other, and therefore had wanted the litter that would ultimately destroy their lives together. Tao didn't make a sound as her father lifted her from the earth to show her the reflection in the pool. The peach cub peered down curiously into the water, and her image rippled just slightly from a soft breeze that caressed her fur. She tried her best to imagine, with all of the clues her father offered. Instead of seeing her own eyes staring back at her from the liquid, she tried to imagine what her mother must have looked like when gazing into the very same pool. Still perfectly silent, Tao attempted to piece together every bit of information, with one brother's nose instead, but with the other brother's fur. Only lighter. But try as she might, Tao could not put together a clear picture in her mind, and her shoulders slumped with disappointment.

A smile returned, however, when Kiume claimed that Lani had been the nicest lioness he had ever known, and it broadened when he then suggested that Tao was very much like her. This seemed to please the cub, and she made a mental note to be especially nice to everyone she met, because that's what her mother probably would have done. Sitting between her father's forepaws, her eyes flickered between her own reflection and her father's. He seemed be be in a better mood now, at least. "Did you know her when you were little? Was she born here, too?" Tao assumed her family had originated in the Outlands, parents included. Why else would her father be the king? She had only heard of the Pridelands whispered under the breath of older pride members, but had no idea the significance behind the kingdom.

Like Mother Like Daughter Empty
PostSubject: Re: Like Mother Like Daughter   Like Mother Like Daughter EmptySat Apr 07, 2012 4:58 pm

Kiume watched his daughter with curiosity as she seemed to be staring intently at her reflection. Oh if only she had been able to see Lani for herself, then she'd have a clear image of her mother to hold on to. The king realized that she was trying to piece together the clues that he had given he into a picture of her mother. But try as she might, Tao seemed to be disappointed and Kiume figured that she couldn't come up with a mental image. His smile faded slightly and he nuzzled her again, Kiume wanted to be the best father he could be, and he seemed to be getting the hang of the whole parenting idea. "Don't worry Tao, I'm sure you'll see her again someday. I know she'll watch over you, her little girl," Who would tell the royal princess otherwise?

But then the peachy cub asked about if he had known Lani when he was a cub, and to that he shook his head, "No darling, your mother wasn't born here, and neither was I," he paused and then continued, he knew his daughter was mature enough to handle this information, "Your mother came from the Desertlands and I the Pridelands, although I met her here when I was a teenager," In all actuality, Lani had been older than Kiume, but he wasn't going to give away that small part of information. It then dawned on the king that if he wasn't born in the Outlands, then his daughter might wonder how he became king, but that was another story for another time. Well, that was unless she asked for the back story. The king pushed a few rocks away from his daughter and himself and fell silent again before bringing up another topic for the two to discuss.

"Tao darling, how much do you know about the Pridelands? Besides that I was born there?" Kiume knew that his children needed to know about the dangers that the Pridelands faced at this moment; it would help them in the long run if they knew now. Scar was edgy, and news of a lost child of his spread like wildfire into the Outlands and that meant only one thing. Kiume's children were in danger if they stepped one toe out of line. Scar had no control over the Outlands but he still threatened that he could diminish them all in one swoop. Having lived through hyena attacks in his youth, Kiume knew how ruthless they could be and how overpowering they were in their pack. But now was the time to teach the cubs how not to get them mad, but their day would come. Yes, the day where he and the rest of Mufasa and Simba's Soldiers would be able to return home without fear of persecution or death.

PostSubject: Re: Like Mother Like Daughter   Like Mother Like Daughter EmptySat Apr 07, 2012 11:33 pm

After searching every little crevice of her delicate features, Tao was resigned to leave her mother's face a mystery in her mind. She wondered how she would see her mother again, but she didn't question it. Tao had faith in what her father said, and if Kiume said it was so, then she would accept it as truth. He had never lied to her before. Though it seemed impossible, Tao was hopefuly nonetheless that she would someday see her mother again.

"The Desertlands," she repeated, trying to remember the name of the kingdom her mother had once called home. The cub had scarcely left the termite mounds in the short life she could recall, had never heard of anything called a 'desert,' but she was instantly curious. She imagined it was a place unlike any she had ever seen, with lots of water and herds in every direction. In truth, the desert was just the opposite of this, a place that created strong, hearty lions. But in Tao's imagination, it was a lovely place for a lovely lioness like her mother. She wondered if it was very far away, or close enough to visit, but decided she would ask another day. Kiume instead brought up a subject that Tao had considered taboo, and she perked up instantly. She knew next to nothing about the Pridelands, but of course was curious, since she wasn't allowed to go near the place.

"The lionesses don't like to talk about the Pridelands. Sometimes I hear them whispering about it though, about hyenas and a lion with a Scar. It doesn't sound like a nice place." The home that she was accustomed to was really no better than the current state of their neighbors, but Tao didn't think it was so terrible there. Sometimes their bellies weren't quite full enough, but the pride cared about one another, and everyone was nice to the cubs. She didn't know that her home was meant to be a punishment. Looking up at her father expectantly, Tao was secretly thrilled to know more about the Pridelands, as if it was some deep, dark secret that now she would understand.

PostSubject: Re: Like Mother Like Daughter   Like Mother Like Daughter EmptyWed Apr 18, 2012 12:35 pm

Kiume nodded as Tao repeated her mother's birthplace to herself, the male hadn't been to the lands before, but he would have to some day to pay some respects to his deceased mate. "Maybe one day you and me can make a trip there Tao, to see where your mother lived?" It would possibly take around three days to get to the Desertlands if they were to go at a steady pace, but for now it would only have to be a plan. The king frowned slightly though, "Although dear, I must warn you, the Desertlands aren't much better off than we are," It was true, although the Desertlanders were born and built to withstand the sandstorms and rough conditions, the only true Outlanders were probably that of Kiume's biological children. They would be full-breed Outlanders until the day they died, even if they joined another pride and removed the prospect of their royal duties from their lives. However, Kiume hoped that they knew where their home was even if they decided to leave.

The king bowed his head when Tao mentioned that the Pridelands didn't seem as a nice place as it used to be. And in reality it wasn't. "Listen closely Tao, your brothers and sister don't know about this," at least Kiume hadn't told them, "but I'm going to tell you why we live here in the Outlands," Kiume eyed the small speck of Pride Rock in the distance, "I was exiled here by the lion known as Scar, he's king of the Pridelands, but only because his brother and nephew were lost in a stampede in the Prideland Gorge." A visible show of disgust crossed the king's face as he mentioned Scar's name and he soon disregarded it for the sake of his cub, "I defied his rule, I slandered his name and declared his brother as the true king of the Pridelands, and so I was sent to the Outlands along with many other Pridelanders in that time. The Pridelands used to be a peaceful place, but now it is dangerous and full of hate, especially from the tyrant who calls himself king," Kiume looked to his daughter and nuzzled her, "You can't step foot in the Pridelands, have I made myself clear Tao? If Scar found out you wandered in, he would destroy you in a heartbeat because you are my cub, and then?"

But Kiume didn't elaborate, he couldn't imagine what would happen if Scar had killed Tao or any of his children. But Tao looked so much like Ilani that he would lose it. He had no favorite cub, but his little girl was special in his heart. Never in his life would he attack Scar directly per say, but if any hyena or Pridelander attacked his daughter, Kiume would take it out on the tyrant king. Maybe he could scar his other eye as well? Either way, no one was touching Tao, or any of his other cubs, but especially Tao. Kiume sighed and looked to the sky, "Don't worry though darling, because one day? We'll live in my homelands one more, and there will be food, water and grass as far as the eyes can see," Kiume knew that if he took his family out of the Outlands, than his children and himself would lose their title as the royal family. Would Lani haunt him for that? Was it the right thing to do? The lone possibility was still far away, but he knew that it was still rapidly approaching, "Trust me Tao, I can see it now. Our destiny will be changed soon," Yes, his family would be able to be raised in a loving environment, away from the desolate Outlands. Where he could live a life of peace. Yes, that day would be here soon!

Like Mother Like Daughter Empty
PostSubject: Re: Like Mother Like Daughter   Like Mother Like Daughter EmptyWed Apr 25, 2012 7:31 pm

The idea of a pilgrimage to the desert kingdom was met with eager nodding from the cub. Even the idea that it might not be a paradise, as she had originally imagined, did not seem to phase her, for Tao instantly felt a connection to the distant lands that her mother once called home. "I think we are doing just fine here, Daddy. Have you been to the desert before?" Even if he had not, Tao's imagination was already running wild, and she would look forward to the day she was old enough to travel with her father, as he suggested. She could barely contain her excitement when Kiume offered to explain their living situation, since no one had ever done so before. The cub was smart enough to know that the terrain and climate of the Outlands were inhospitable, and that most of the older members of the pride had come from elsewhere. Now the big mystery would finally be revealed, to her before her siblings!

Peach ears folded backwards when the story turned out to be a very scary one. She had heard 'Scar' whispered among the lionesses, and now she understood why. She envisioned a huge, terrible lion, covered in scars, as his name suggested, and she shrunk closer to the ground fearfully, even though she knew the dreaded tyrant was nowhere near. She didn't have the nerve to admit to her father that she had already strayed into the forbidden kingdom once or twice before, out of curiosity. Learning now just how dangerous a place it was came as a surprise to Tao, though she wasn't sure why. The very notion that a mean king would kill an innocent cub was outrageous, but she knew her father was deadly serious, and she nodded obediently when he ordered that she avoid their neighbors at all costs. "I won't go there."

Puzzled once more when Kiume spoke of living in the Pridelands again someday, Tao blinked curiously as the lion looked upwards. Did this mean her father was going to fight the bad king and overthrow his reign? Tao was certain her father would win, for in her eyes, no other lion was as strong as capable, or more regal than Kiume, but the idea of losing her father was too terrible to imagine. "Is it possible to change our destiny?" Did they have the power to improve their own lives, or was violence the only way to reclaim the lost lands? Stare averting to the blue sky above which matched her eyes so closely, Tao pondered all the possibilities. Then, something else occurred to her, and since it seemed her father had the time to satisfy her curiosity, Tao asked, "If you were born somewhere else, how come you're the king here? And why do you want to go back? Don't you like being king, and the Outlands?"

PostSubject: Re: Like Mother Like Daughter   Like Mother Like Daughter EmptyFri Apr 27, 2012 4:47 pm

The king shook his head at his daughter and sighed, "No I haven't been to the Desertlands yet, but like I said; maybe we can go someday?" As Kiume told his story about his exile to the Outlands, he could see the fear marred on his daughter's face. It almost killed him to continue on but he had to, Tao had to know why she was the princess of these barren lands. He smiled greatly when his daughter said that she wouldn't enter the Pridelands and he placed his paw on his head and ruffled her bangs. He trusted his daughter and was naive to the fact that she had entered his old homelands anyways. If he ever found out that his little girl had wandered into there, the male wouldn't know what to do. Of course there would be punishment, but at what cost? What if Scar found out about Tao's wanderings, what if she never came back? Scar wasn't a cub killer it seemed, but there was every chance that he could turn into one instantly. Especially if it was Kiume's cubs involved.

Kiume nodded as Tao questioned about the changing of destiny and he sighed, "I believe that destiny can choose to be changed, and that it changes every day by our actions. However, the Great Kings of the Past can alter our destiny greatly if they see it for the good of all," Kiume didn't know if his little girl had known about the Great Kings for it was an old Prideland teaching. But on some days Kiume found that to be true, for he felt the presence of someone other than him and his pride around him. For some days he wished it would be Denali, the former king, to give him so guidance. And others he wished for it to be Mufasa. But most of the days he wished for it to be Ilani, the mother of his cubs, just to see her again would set his mind at ease. He pictured her often, but to see the smile of her face would be amazing; he would kill for that chance again. But at least he still had Tao and Kudumu, practically Ilani clones, and Kavu, who still had his mother's influence.

And then there was the question that Kiume did not want to answer, but he sighed and answered anyways, "You see Tao, when I was exiled I was the only male in the pride and the previous king had no cubs of his own. A hyena attack, the same one that gave me the scar upon my eye, gave him a wound that he didn't recover from. So then, before he died he made me his heir, teaching me the ways of being a king," Kiume looked to the sky and closed his eyes, "I love being king of the Outlands sweetheart, and I love the home and family that we have here. But," he paused, "the Outlands are supposed to be a punishment for us lions. I don't want you to have to deal with my mistakes. But my daughter, even if we do leave these lands once the tyrant is out of power, just know that you and your brothers are the true heirs of the Outlands,"

He smiled at his daughter and stared into her sky cerulean eyes, "I will make sure that you are able to come back if you wish to rule the lands, you and your brothers," Kiume would make sure that there would be someone that knew of his children's ruling possibilities, to make sure that the new king or queen would be alright with the possibility of giving up the position of their rule. There was finally a royal bloodline of the Outlands and Kiume would hate for that to be lost to the ages, but he knew that his children were smart and if they wanted their rule he would make sure that they would have it. Kiume tilted his head and softened his eyes, "Why are you asking me this Tao, you seem awfully curious today, is something bothering you?" Could his daughter be worried about something? An unseen threat? It was normal for cubs to be curious, Simba and Nala would always try to sneak off when under Kiume's care, but the father of three didn't seem to understand how curious cubs could be.

PostSubject: Re: Like Mother Like Daughter   Like Mother Like Daughter EmptySat May 12, 2012 2:23 pm

Tao would dream about the desert often after their conversation, and look forward to the day she was big enough to travel around with her father. The idea sounded wonderful, she was certain they would have lots of fun, and with Kiume, she always felt safe. When her father spoke of the Great Kings of the Past, Tao's expression changed again to curiosity. She had heard some stories about such things, but naturally, she had to ask more questions. "Great Kings? Are there lionesses up there, too?"

Automatically, the young cub’s gaze averted upwards, and she imagined a bigger family that existed up there in the clouds above, looking down on their descendents as life continued on. Tao knew that even if her own life ceased, everything would continue just the same, with or without her. She knew that she was small and felt humbled beneath the stunningly blue sky that matched her eyes - her mother's eyes. "Do you think that’s where my mother is now? Up with the Great Kings? Girls are good enough too, aren't we?" Her tone was serious, for she knew that some lions preferred their sons over their daughters, and she didn't understand it.

Tao's expression clouded when her fears were confirmed: the Outlands were nothing but a punishment, her father the king of a land no one else wanted. But they were a family, each and every member of the pride, and Tao shook her head slowly. "I- I think it's a great place, Daddy. Really, I do! And I think ours is a great pride, and you're- you're a great king!" Tao understood now. Her place as part of a royal family was only a fraction of the whole story. Still, there was a part of the little cub that loved her homeland, despite her father's words, and she took some pride in being called one of its heirs.

Of course, Tao did not possess the personality of one who sought to be the supreme ruler of his (or her) own land, and was quite content following her father's lead for the time being. There was a small piece of her that realized her brothers could never have a chance to become king, if the bad King Scar ever left and Kiume decided to bring his cubs back to the Pridelands. It was all so much to take in, and a lot for Tao to think about in the future. "I just want to know more, I guess. I want to be smart like you, and know about all sorts of things," she said, her face contorted in a wide, proud grin. "I don’t have to be a king to help others, I think."

Kiume nodded at his daughter's worries of there not being any girls with the Great Kings. "The Great Kings are often lonely without their mates, their queens sit right alongside of them, ready to help at a moment's notice," And as he was about to continue she asked if that was where her mother was, also worrying more about if lionesses were good enough to be up with the Great Kings. "Tao, I know your mother is up there, and she waits for all of us patiently. Even if you and your brothers never become king or queen, you will still join us where the Great Kings and Queens stay. There is nothing to worry about my daughter," The king pulled his daughter close and nuzzled her head, giving her bangs and forehead yet another lick. It worried Kiume slightly that his daughter was fretting about the future, but he let it go as her curiosity. But then, Tao's expression changed when Kiume started to talk about the lands, how his children were here in the Outlands because of his mistakes as a youth. She started to speak about how their pride was great, how her father was such a great king too. These words almost pained Kiume but he pushed them into the back of his mind as he nuzzled Tao once more.

"We have an amazing family, and an amazing pride. And I can understand if you wish to be a part of the Outland pride," Kiume paused, "however, I do wish that you come stay with me and your brothers in the Pridelands once the bad king is out of power. Just until you're old enough to live without me watching over you. Like I said my daughter, I will have someone here to make sure you can come back to rule these lands once you are old enough." It was slightly odd now-a-days to think about a life back in the Pridelands, for he had been in the Outland kingdom for so long. Even to give up his throne to someone not of the now established royal family? It was almost absurd in many eyes of the pride. But Kiume took the job because he had to, chaos would have erupted if he didn't and the pride would have been destroyed from the inside out. But would the new rulers of the Pridelands accept a family of exiles back into their kingdom? When Tao said that her father was a great king, he smiled, "Thank you Tao, there's days where I don't think I am to be honest. But soon enough, you will grow up to be a better queen than I was ever king," A wider, prouder grin was plastered on Kiume's face when he noticed his daughter's intellectual ambitions.

"Tao, I feel as if you'll grow up to be the smartest one out of all of your siblings. You'll take after your mother even more than you already do," Kiume had no idea if Ilani was the smartest of her family, all he knew was that she was the only one of her siblings to survive. So in order to make his peach-colored daughter happy, he hoped he was telling the truth. But when Tao said that she didn't need to be a king to help any other lions, a slight frown crossed his muzzle. "Queen, Tao. You will be a queen, not a king. Boys like your brothers grow up to be kings, while you will grow up to be a queen," After the slight chastisement and quick fix of his daughter's vocabulary, the king nuzzled his daughter's head once more and smiled. "One does not have to become a king or queen to help others, it is in the kindness of their heart that a lion helps another. You hold that same kindness in your heart Tao, and I know that you'll use it for the good of all," Kiume looked back towards the den and thought to the surrogate mother of his cubs, Chini. Her own cubs had been growing up strong, and Kiume wondered if her son Kijivu had made any advances towards his daughter. Granted they would make good playmates, but having his daughter fall in love with some lion was something Kiume wasn't ready for.

"Have you played with Kijivu at all darling? What do you make of him?" The male took after his mother, inheriting all of her features except for the shaped nose that Kavu shared. The rare dusky silver gene that seemed to run in their family had made it's way onto Kijivu but not his sister whom inherited her father's genes. Kiume wasn't one for arranged marriages, but if he had to in order to give his children a place to return to once they were of age he might consider it. If not Kijivu and Tao, then most likely Askari and Kavu. But that was all for the future, something that Kiume would push into the deep recesses of his mind for now.

The young cub seemed satisfied with her father's response, and took comfort in the knowledge that the family would be reunited someday. Tao believed every word of it, and she would daydream about it for hours, when she was alone. And as Kiume suggested, Tao was not worried. Life was not always fair, but in the end, she was certain it would all make sense. Her soft, gentle purr erupted again when her father licked her forehead, and she made no attempt to move away. She loved her dad, and she wanted to be close to him.

"Is that bad king going away soon, Daddy?" Naturally, Tao would follow her father to whatever pride he belonged to, but the thought of losing everything that she knew was somewhat worrisome to Tao. The scenery wasn’t much, but it was home. She suppressed her concern for the time being though, and tried to imagine how nice it would be in this fairy tale-esque kingdom that her father described. She felt safe in her father's presence. "I will go with you," she chirped positively. "We'll always have each other, won't we?"

Kiume seemed certain that regardless of where the family lived, Tao would still grow to be a queen, but the cub had her doubts. True, she had never seen a queen in action, and so she wasn't entirely certain what one was supposed to do, but she wasn't the strongest of her litter. Perhaps she was smart, as Kiume suggested, but Tao also realized her brothers were equally clever. She didn't see yet that she was anything but an ordinary cub with a fancy title. Maybe every cub was really a prince or a princess? It was a little confusing and hard to comprehend what the big deal was. Some lions killed one another for a chance to be in charge, but Tao was content to go with the flow.

"Kijivu?" Tao shook her head slowly. She knew the other cub, and she had nothing against him, but most of her time was spent with her brothers, or with Zivia, whom she looked up to and adored. But an arranged marriage was something Tao would not like, if she understood what it meant. Love was not something that could be chosen for convenience, or predetermined. Romantic love was the last thing on the cub's mind however, and she didn't guess what her father had in mind. "I haven't really played with him. Do you think that I should?" She peered curiously up at Kiume.

How could Kiume answer a question like that? He knew that Simba was alive, but who knows how effective Rafiki would be in making him return? Maybe someone else would have to come with the mandrill in order to convince the lost prince to come home. But, should Kiume really worry that much about it. Still, he sighed and thought for a moment before finally answering his daughter. "I don't know Tao, but what I do know is that if everything goes as planned he should be. The Pridelanders are planning something, but I don't know much about it." That was a slight lie, Kiume knew that the Pridelanders hated their king, but he didn't know that if anyone besides Rafiki had a plan to take the kingdom back. But, Kiume smiled when Tao said that she would follow him and he patted her head softly. "We will always be together, for you will one day join me and your mother once the sun sets on your time as well as mine. And do not worry my daughter. I will make sure that you are able to safely return to the Outlands whenever you want. You may live in the Pridelands, but you will always be Princess," The king loved to spend time with his daughter, and now this conversation was getting very very deep.

An arranged marriage wasn't Kiume's plan at all, but it was only a last-ditch effort. But, he would make sure that the two really had chemistry before betrothing them to each other. Kiume remembered the days when Simba gave the Pridelanders a sick look when they talked about him and Nala being married and the memories made him laugh. But when Tao asked about Kijivu it made him wonder if he really should even think about it any more? Giving away his daughter to a male was something that Kiume wouldn't do willingly, it would have to be a male that he could trust with his daughter, with the chance at the Outland throne. "Well it really is up to you dear, I thought maybe you might want to play with someone other than Zivia and your brothers. Not that there's anything wrong with playing with your siblings, I never had them so I'm jealous of you," Kiume winked and chuckled, "but Kijivu and Askari both seem like wonderful cubs to play with," The golden king loved his daughter and sons dearly, but he would rather have a say in who his daughter found as her future mate, but he wouldn't have much say. He would rather find the male as a strong and reliable male that wouldn't leave her if she didn't give him strong male cubs like so many other males seemed to do today. But what if her future mate was someone who was raised in a situation like this? Would they be like their parents?

The king smiled and stood up, shaking off the dust and dirt from his pelt and mane. He crouched into a playful position and pressed his paw against his daughter's side. He smiled and leaned down to Tao's ear and muttered one simple word, "Tag," He quickly moved away from his daughter and jogged away slowly from his little girl, laughing playfully. Of course he would let Tao tackle him and catch him, but he would at least let her trail behind for a little bit.

(Sorry it's short Bee! ^^")

What were the Pridelanders planning? Tao could only imagine, but she wondered how brave the other pride was. They had endured the reign of the bad king for a long time now, it seemed. Why hadn't they left, like her father? But then, Kiume had not left by choice. He had been forced out. Before long, Tao would learn for herself who was residing across the border. Someday, it would be her home, as well, but would it ever feel right for the young lioness? Now, the questioning cub seemed satisfied with all of the answers she had received, and had fallen quiet. Only time would tell what the future would bring for the Outlanders, but at least they would have each other, no matter what. This was all Tao could wish for, all that she truly wanted. She nuzzled up against her father's leg a final time.

Kijivu and Askari had both of their parents, and it had seemed to Tao that they were never really interested in playing. But perhaps she had been wrong. She nodded as her father spoke of them. "I'll play with them! It would be good to get to know others, besides Zivia and Kudu and Kavi," she said resolutely. Tao was the friendly sort anyway, maybe all she had to do was make the first effort and the two other cubs would be fast friends. She wasn't the type to look down on others because she had a title and they didn't. Her nature was very accepting, which could easily lead to trouble in the future. But for now, she would be safe under her father's watchful gaze.

As Kiume leaned down to whisper in the cub's ears, her expression grew curious. Was he going to tell her more secrets? The day had been filled with information that would take time to process and consider, but Tao was eager to learn whatever her father wanted to share. Instead, a game of tag began, which sent the princess into a fit of giggle. None of the other grown ups in the pride would play with the cubs, really. Most of them humored the younger generation, while others tried to teach them. Tao jumped to her paws and pounced after her father with as ferocious a growl as she could muster (which, in Tao's case, wasn't very ferocious at all). "I'm an Outlander! You can't mess with me!" She pounced Kiume with all her might, but was so tiny, it was probably no worse than being attacked by a mouse with no teeth.

[[Haha, that wasn't even short so no worries! We can wrap this one up here or soon if you'd like. Cute bonding ^^]]
