Appearance: As a cub, Simba boasted golden-brown fur, as commented upon by Pumbaa. His eyes are a deep orange hue while, his muzzle, underbody, forepaws, and lower eyeshades are light-colored. Now that he is fully matured, his auburn mane has grown in thick, and it hangs down before his eyes. His build is smaller than that of his father, due to years of feasting on grubs and other small prey in the Lowlands during his years spent in self-exile. In spite of the lack of proper nutrition, Simba has grown up to be a strong lion, and one who might not know better could easily mistake him for his deceased father, Mufasa.

Personality: As a cub, Simba was curious, adventurous, cocky, and all too ready to become king. He was known to overstep his authority and attempt to order around the other creatures of Pride Rock. His charmed life ended abruptly while he was young, though. He has suffered serious emotional trauma after being involved in the stampede that claimed his beloved father's life, ignorant to the fact that his own Uncle Scar had caused the terrible tragedy. At his uncle's urging, young Simba fled the Pridelands feeling depressed.

It has proven to be easier to run from the past rather than try to resolve his issues, and so Simba embraces the 'Hakuna Matata' lifestyle with a gusto. He has spent the last several years ignoring his troubles while having the time of his life in the jungle with his adopted caretakers, Timon and Pumbaa. Now that he is fully grown, Simba is plagued by terrible nightmares about the stampede, about the fate of his old pride, and of his father's disappointment in his son for running away and never looking back. In spite of the carefree exterior, Simba is deeply hurt by his past and increasingly guilt ridden for having abandoned them.

History: Simba's birth was a huge ceremony celebrated by nearly every animal in the Pridelands. Simba was born to the great King Mufasa and his loving Queen Sarabi. He was the joy of the land and he was destined for great things. The one creature that was absent from his presentation ceremony was his Uncle Scar, who loathed the golden prince from the second he was born. Simba quickly grew to be a rambunctious, curious cub. It was a prosperous time in the kingdom, with many other cubs to play with, but his best friend was a pale female cub named Nala, who was said to be his betrothed. The two often found themselves in sticky situations, and it was usually Simba who put the pair into great danger.

One day, Scar told Simba he had a present for the young cub and he took Simba to the gorge to wait. Sadly, it was all part of Scar's devious plot, and the poor scared cub found himseld beneath the hooves of a huge herd of panicked wildebeest. Scar fetched Mufasa, who bravely jumped into the fray to save his son. Unfortunately, while Simba's life was spared that day, Mufasa would not be so lucky. Though Simba could not see it, it was Scar who ultimately murdered his brother, but the dark lion turned the story around and shifted the blame onto Simba.

Stricken with grief and intense guilt, Simba followed Scar's advice and left his home and his pride behind. He was found nearly dead by a meerkat and warthog, who took pity on the little lion and decided to take care of him, knowing that one day he may come in handy. Timon and Pumbaa introduced him to the 'Hakuna Matata' mentality -- no worries, and forget about your past. But as hard as Simba tried to forget, the memories of his once happy childhood haunted him, even as the days turned into years and his mane grew in thick.
