On The Outside Looking In Empty
PostSubject: On The Outside Looking In   On The Outside Looking In EmptySun Oct 07, 2012 2:03 am

[[It's terrible I know, the condition i'm in at the moment makes it hard to think D:]]

Ziko was alone. Always. He'd realised this as he grew and he knew that this feeling of loneliness that resided deep within him would not be leaving his body anytime soon. All he did most of the time was sit and stare up at the sky, wondering what to do with himself. His loyalty still belonged to the King of the Coldlands, and to the Prince as well. Both of them had been good to him, and it had been the reason he hadn't fled back to the Lowlands at his young age when hearing of his father's death. Ismahel had been more of a father to him than his own father, and Sakitu was a wonderful friend. But now, they were both busy and Ziko felt so lonely all the time. He was a reserved lion, and often came across cold and calculating with the way he regarded others. But really, he just felt cut off from everyone else. He didn't know if he belonged anywhere, he'd always lived in the Coldlands, but he didn't feel as if they were his home.

The Lowlands didn't seem like his home either. He faintly remembered the jungle where he'd been born, but it wasn't home. No where was home for the white lion, and though he looked like he belonged in the Coldlands with his white coat, it wasn't in him to really feel as if he belonged there. He could remember loving the snowy lands as a cub, so full of energy and excitement despite being taken away from his sisters and his other brother, Upendo, along with his mother. Despite being left with a father that he really had no strong feelings towards. He had still loved the Coldlands despite that, but he supposed it had something to do with Jabari. Jabari had liked him then. Jabari did not like him now, that much was obvious to anyone. Ziko knew why - because he'd never hated Shinikizo like Jabari had. His brother was an angry lion to say the least, and he had always been filled with a burning rage. Being the more reserved and quiet of the two, Ziko hadn't offered any argument, nor did he agree with his brother but merely tried to defend his father, albeit reluctantly and more out of principal than love.

Ziko was not yet aware of his mother's death, in fact, he could picture her now with his teenager siblings who he loved so much, standing tall and proud over her litter, though her eyes filled with sadness for a love lost. It had been obvious even to the cub that his mother and father dearly loved one another, and it was that love that had destroyed them both, but then, in a way, it had not been the only thing that destroyed them. In reality, when one considered it, the lions had destroyed themselves. Shinikizo with his desire to be so un-like his father that he actually became like him, turning against a King who had shown nothing but kindness towards him and attempting to end the King's life. Ziko's father had brought his own death upon himself, as well as his mother. Shani had fled to the savannah, despite the dangers she knew to reside there and had soon been savaged by a rogue lion filled with madness. Ziko sat back and surveyed the area he had wandered to. The ice fields were a beautiful place when the little bit of sunlight peaked through and reflected off of the surface of the ice, sending rainbows everywhere and shining elegantly. A small smile graced the white lion's muzzle.

On The Outside Looking In Empty
PostSubject: Re: On The Outside Looking In   On The Outside Looking In EmptySun Oct 07, 2012 8:37 pm

Upendo had awoken with a surprise that morning, there was a lost cub that Giza had brought back to where they ended up. Upendo couldn't be prouder of his friend, the lost had become the rescuer, it warmed his heart. However even though they were now one lion more strong, it wasn't the lion that they were looking for. It had been weeks since the duo left the Lowlands and Upendo thought often of his sisters. Were they doing alright since they had left? Had they been helping Queen Duara and her new cubs? The Lowland queen had been pregnant and was due any day after the two left so Upendo could only suspect that there was now a new royal litter in the kingdom of the jungle. The growing adolescent could only fear for his sisters, their mother had gotten pregnant with them around this age and now she was dead, and so was their father. However he wasn't in the Lowlands anymore, he had to let them be themselves, grow up and make their own mistakes instead of listening to him speak about their own parents'. But for some reason Upendo felt that his sisters knew that he was going to be fine and that they would be safe. They were in the care of their queens now, nothing else would matter right now. Their mother's killer was dead and they were safe at the moment. Hopefully they would be safe at least. A slight chill washed over the aging adolescent as the sun broke over the horizon. Dual-colored eyes watched over Giza and the new cub before Upendo turned his head, it was time for him to set out.

He hated leaving Giza alone anywhere, but he felt that he needed to do this alone for right now. A small trace of the scent of water had hit Upendo's nose before he realized that this wasn't just water. It smelled different, just like he remembered his father smelling when he took his brothers to the Coldlands with him. His heart fluttered, finally he realized that he was close to the homeland of his father, where his mother had told him that he was born. He couldn't remember the Coldlands at all, but somehow he knew that he was near. Quickly the teen padded into the neutral area of the Coldlands and was amazed at what he saw. The lands were filled with all of this white fluffy stuff, something he vaguely remember his father saying was called snow. He somewhat felt like a cub again, running forward and falling face first into the cold substance. He pawed around the stuff for a moment before remembering that he was here for his brothers. It didn't take him long before Upendo came across a vast lake of water, although this water wasn't flowing like in the Lowlands. It was suspended and solid, frozen into something called ice. The teen made his way around it, carefully not trying to slip and fall, not realizing that this was the very place that his mother and father met those many years ago. Oblivious to this fact, Upendo was about to bypass this area until he saw a figure in the distance. And he couldn't believe his eyes.

He was close enough to recognize who this was, the white pelt and brown mane of his gave it away. The teen approached the lion, smiling softly as he eyed his brother. He was staring out over the ice from which Upendo was just crossing but he was doubtful that he saw him. He cleared his throat and with a smile finally spoke, "Ziko! Brother!" He eyed the lion, his crimson eyes that he shared with Upendo, the pink nose, his mother's tail tuft becoming shaggy over his head into a mane. And yet even with all of this differentiating him from the former Upendo couldn't help but see his father standing right in front of him. He mirrored the lion in everything except color and for that Upendo wondered what Jabari looked like. But right now Upendo was focusing on Ziko, oh how much he looked like their father. His eyes filled with tears, not tears of mourning for his father but tears of joy. However he couldn't let them roll down his face, he wasn't here to show him how much of a weakling he was. But he was happy to see his brother. Upendo's own mane only needed to grow a few more inches but other than that it was filled much like his brother's was. Did he know about Shani? Would he return with him and Giza once he found out? All these questions would be answered soon enough. But first Upendo unexpectedly tackled his brother to the ground, nuzzling him in the caring matter that he always would. Finally he was able to find one part of his family, but now the challenge came. Where was Jabari at?

On The Outside Looking In Empty
PostSubject: Re: On The Outside Looking In   On The Outside Looking In EmptyWed Oct 17, 2012 11:15 pm

The last lion that Ziko expected to lay his eyes on as he wandered by himself, per usual, to dwell in his own pitiful thoughts regarding himself, was Upendo - his favoured brother to Jabari as the other had chosen to dislike him. It was something that still hurt Ziko to think of, that his own brother held a deep dislike for him due to the fact that he did not share similar opinions with Jabari regarding their father, Shinikizo. Ziko did not believe it was his fault that he was so neutral whenever he thought about anyone, as he did not have a hateful nature, nor was he overly loving of anyone, but it seemed that Jabari's hateful behaviour made him more prone to despise Ziko simply because of a disagreement when it come to one another's opinions. Growing up with Jabari, Ziko knew him better than any of the others who knew him, and he knew that Jabari would not be likely to let go of his dislike of the white lion for a while to come, and Ziko would've had to work hard to gain the approval of his brother. It was a task that he did not fancy putting his efforts towards, because if Jabari was interested in ever forgiving him, then he would seek him out. In fact, Ziko hadn't seen the angry lion for quite a few days now and he felt deep inside of him that his other brother had left them.

Ziko's memory of Upendo was hazy, as they had grown together until the time they no longer required their mother's milk and that had been when the two were very young indeed. Ziko looked over at his brother and finally, a smile crossed the white lion's muzzle as he saw the playful delight on Upendo's face. What he did remember was Upendo being loving, forgiving, caring, he was the perfect brother and Ziko loved him dearly, even if it was just the memory of him that he loved. It seemed that Upendo still held on to a lot of the trait's he had possessed as a young cub, and a chuckle rumbled in Ziko's throat as Upendo regarded the snow with clear delight. It seemed only natural that the dual-coloured eyed brother of his would be so excited at the prospect of the freezing, soft white fluffy substance that they walked upon, for Ziko knew there was not snow in the Lowlands but rather jungle, something he knew not of. His brother had aged well and was becoming a very handsome, strong young lion, and Ziko was proud to call the other his brother, even if they did not know each other as well as he might hope. Or maybe, like many siblings, they would have an instant connection, a bond that could never be broken no matter how many miles they were spread apart from one another.

Upendo called out to him and Ziko nodded his head in a greeting from the distance as Upendo un-certainly crossed the ice. This would be a challenge for any lion who had not grown up among the ice and the snow, and it was why Ziko would've found it so much easier to cross over to his brother. But, he remained still and allowed Upendo to have his victory over the ice that stood in the way of him and his brother as he crossed it. Ziko was about to open his mouth and return a greeting, when out of the blue Upendo tackled him to the ground and Ziko laughed happily, his depressing mood completely vaporising in the air as he flipped them over and nuzzled his brother fondly before jumping off of him and sitting back as he examined his brother carefully. He was a healthy weight with a stocky but smaller build than Ziko himself, his brown coat a perfect mixture of his mother and father's, the red in one of his eyes matching Ziko's, whilst the purple was the perfect shade of Shani's. The tuft of hair at the end of his tail, the rapidly growing mane, Ziko's face split in a huge grin. "Brother, it is so good to see you. How have you been?" Ziko asked, a mild excitement laced in his tone.

On The Outside Looking In Empty

Before Upendo had the chance to react, Ziko had flipped the two over and had returned the favor of nuzzling him. But soon he was off and sitting next to the dark tan lion. The male sat up himself and eyed his crimson-eyed brother, remembering he playful nature he had as a cub. But now, Ziko seemed to be more dignified, more adult-like, Upendo knew that he would make the Great Spirits proud. He was asked how good he was and Upendo was shocked to see how deep his voice had gotten. It wasn't squeaky anymore as a cub's was, nor was it fluctuating as an adolescent's was. "I'm doing fine, I made it here haven't I?" he chuckled before returning to the topic at hand, "Oh you shouldn't worry so much about me though. You need to see Malaika! And Sakina! Malaika looks just like mother, although more," Upendo couldn't find the word he was looking for, but finally he stumbled upon it when he thought about her head, "scruffy!" Sakina on the other hand was looking just as big and as tough as she always had, but Upendo hadn't seen much of his sisters around these days. They were probably off hunting together, but Upendo knew they were in the Lowlands daily. He saw them come in every night and he did his best to spend some late night cuddles with his siblings, but more often than not he had been sleeping closer to the lost princess of the Pridelands than he did his siblings. But maybe when he got back he would be able to spend more time with not only his sisters, but his brothers as well.

"I've been traveling with my friend Giza, you remember me telling you about her when you visited the Lowlands right? We're looking for her sister Tasa and we made a pit-stop here in the Coldlands so I could talk to you and Jabari," Upendo was unaware of the fate of his father, that he really had been killed by the king of the lands for trying to usurp the throne for a better life for his children. He still had the childish idea that his father had been killed by a rogue as he was protecting the kingdom and Upendo quickly assumed the rogue who had killed his mother and attacked Nyima were the same lion, trying to finish the job of killing off Shinikizo's family and claim the Lowlands for himself. He didn't want to bring up the topic of his mother's death so early in the conversation and destroy this happy reunion, however there was no point in beating around the bush any longer. Ziko was sure to realize that his brother was hiding something from him and Upendo didn't want to cause his brother any more grief than this news would cause him. "Ziko, we need you to come home. Both you and Jabari. You need to come home now," Upendo paused for a moment as he looked around the lands that his brothers had most likely come to love. Taking them away from this place was risky and was more unlikely to happen. But Upendo took a breath and finally started to speak once more. "Ziko, mother's gone, she was killed by a rogue almost a year ago," Had it really been that long since the mother of five had been taken from them?

Finally a lone tear fell down Upendo's face as he approached his brother and nuzzled him once. "She would have loved to see how you look now, she loved father and you look so much like him. Just like grandmother as well," There had been one bedtime story when he was younger where Shani had regarded their paternal grandmother being as white as snow, another reason why their father had wanted to raise Ziko in the Coldlands. But it was short, most likely not able to be caught in one's memory. But it was something that Upendo had remembered although it was fuzzy. His mother did not speak of her own parents, but spoke horribly about their father's parents. However Upendo forced those thoughts out of his mind, trying his best to forget them. Instead Upendo turned back to his brother, "Sakina and Malaika need you and Jabari home, they need their brothers. I need you home," The snow underneath the lion seemed to unnerve him, much unlike his father who loved the snow but hated the warmth of the Lowlands and Savannah. "I would have come earlier Ziko, but I was just a cub. You needed to know, someone you could trust needed to tell you. I just don't know how Jabari would react, he didn't seem to care for mother as a cub, but he needs to know too. Do you know where he is?"

On The Outside Looking In Empty
PostSubject: Re: On The Outside Looking In   On The Outside Looking In EmptyWed Oct 24, 2012 11:19 pm

Ziko was indeed pleased to see his brother, safe and well. He still seemed to be full of a cub-like playfulness, and he seemed incredibly happy - something that was good to see in his brother. He had always wondered how his siblings fared and hoped that it was well. He had made a note in his mind several times to go visit his family, but he'd never gotten around to doing it. It was why he was glad his brother was here, though he hoped that the reason was not because he brought bad news, though his brother seemed awfully high-spirited if he was indeed bringing news that would not be pleasant to Ziko. But then, that was just Upendo's nature, ever since he'd been a cub he'd always been a loveable bundle of joy that could melt the heart of any lion (except, perhaps, Scar). "Yes, you made it all the way here un-scathed, i'm very proud of you brother." Ziko smiled softly at his brother, bumping his elbow against the darker coloured lions own shoulder in a playful manner. It was so good to see his brother, Ziko had not even come close to realising just how much he'd missed having someone to be happy and cheerful around. Jabari despised him, that much was clear through the lion who looked so much like their father's actions, and it was upsetting to Ziko and made him became closed off from the Pride because secretly, he craved his brother's love.

Ziko nodded his head in agreement with Upendo loudly proclaimed that he needed to see their beautiful sisters, Malaika and Sakina. He could remember Sakina being a strangely lighter colour that seemed to come from their maternal grandmother. Sakina had shining, cerulean blue eyes that were a perfect match to their father. On the other hand, Malaika was coloured just like her mother and was as beautiful as Sakina. Her indigo eyes sparkled, whilst Sakina's cerulean ones twinkled. In a brotherly fashion, Ziko was smitten with both of his sister's and would protect the girls with his own life if the need ever arose. "I do miss my sisters and I would love to see how they've grown. I trust that you've kept them safe from harm, Upendo, though I am concerned - you have left two beautiful lionesses alone in the jungle kingdom? You have entrusted their safety to the Queen's, I presume, but they are busy. How can you be sure that our sisters won't run into trouble?" Ziko's tone was slightly disapproving of his brother's choice to abandon their own sisters to find this 'Giza's sister. He did not agree with Upendo's actions even remotely and it would be un-likely that Upendo would be able to sway Ziko's disapproval much.

"I don't remember much about those trips other than the jungle, brother. Though the name Giza is familiar," he mused, thinking hard but he could only remember the name, nothing of how Upendo might have described her personality and her looks. He was glad that Upendo had a friend at least. Ziko's expression was grave as Upendo informed him of their mother's passing and he felt a wave of grief wash over him. He had now lost both of his young parents and he bowed his head slightly to stare at the snow, not realising he and his brother were standing in the spot that Shinikizo and Shani had met not to many years ago. He then felt a slight budding of anger inside of him, though being a more neutral lion it didn't show much. He lifted his head and regarded Upendo with upset. "You have left our sister's alone with that rogue roaming around? What were you thinking, Upendo?" Where another lions voice would be out-raged, Ziko's was soft but full of anger. He shook his head and sighed, looking up towards the sky and wishing that he could at least have his mother back. He felt more love towards her than his father, for he had not cared much for the lion but enough to be saddened by his death. "Of course brother, I will go home. But I fear you may not be able to find Jabari, he has gone absent during the past few days and I believe he may have finally abandoned us."
